KENYA CELEBRATES 48th INDEPENDENCE DAY

Kenya High Commission 48th National Day celebration at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kenya High Commission observed Kenya’s 48th Jamhuri Day celebration on the 16th of December 2011. Jamuhuri Day also called Independence Day, is one of the most important national holidays in Kenya, observed on December 12.

The holiday formally marks the date of the country’s admittance in 1964 into the Commonwealth as a republic and takes its name from the Swahili word jamhuri (“republic”).

In Kuala Lumpur – Malaysia, The Kenya High Commissioner His Excellency Amb. Samori A. Okwiya hosted a reception at Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur.

The reception was graced by The Minister of Defence Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and the Deputy Minister of Finance – Hon. Senator Dato’ Ir. Lim Siang. Also present at the reception were High Commissioners and Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary among other diplomats from over 40 countries based in Kuala Lumpur, as well as the Archbishop of the Catholic Church, Kuala Lumpur, Most Rev. Tan Sri Murphey N. Xavier.

The reception was attended by fellow Ambassadors from the African, European and South American countries residing in Kuala Lumpur and also guest the from Malaysian Corporations including Dunham-Hew Deng Wai, Global Director for Dunham-Bush Holding Berhard.
